The Delhi government has taken a decisive step to combat air pollution by reinstating a ban on the manufacturing, sale, storage, and use of all types of firecrackers in the capital city.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced this measure on Monday as part of a comprehensive action plan to mitigate pollution during the winter months. The government will instruct the Delhi Police to strictly enforce the ban throughout the city. This move follows a consistent pattern of banning firecrackers in Delhi over the past three years.
In the previous year, the government introduced stringent measures to discourage firecracker use during Diwali, including the possibility of a jail term of up to six months and a fine of Rs 200 for those caught bursting firecrackers in the city.
Additionally, the production, storage, and sale of firecrackers within Delhi were subject to penalties of up to Rs 5,000 and three years in prison under Section 9B of the Explosives Act.
